TO THE LIMITS OF THE SOUL'S IDEAL:
SPECIAL THANKS

This is really unique: A portrait of Chamberlain for a beer bottle label, sent with the generous permission of Maine artist Ken Hendricksen. Please do not copy, without his express written permission.

I would like to give some special thanks to many individuals, for their assistance and generosity in helping to create my Web site:

I first want to thank my sister and brother-in-law, Joanne and David Lenweaver, for all the assistance and advice they've given me in creating this Web site -- from using the photo scanner, to showing me how to make my site more "visitor-friendly". And all this has been done, even with the more-than-occasional ribbing about Chamberlain, that I get from both of them. Thanks, guys!!

Particular thanks must go to a friend who calls himself "lurker". He is the one who so graciously offered to host my site, when my brother-in-law shut down the original host site. "Lurker" has been most patient and gracious, when I've frantically contacted him with any problems I've had uploading. I don't know what I would do without him!

Extra special thanks must go to my most dear friend Thomas Fleming, for his expertise in reducing the size of photos on various pages on the site!

Special thanks must go to the late Civil War historian (and fervent champion of Chamberlain) Mr. Brian C. Pohanka, for his most moving thoughts on Chamberlain., and for the always-encouraging words he gave me, whenever I added a new page to the site. Brian, you are still missed, very much!

Special thanks must also go to Mike Nugent, the "Civil War Belle", Mindy Eckler, and Patrick Schroeder, for their gracious permission to use their personal photos of the late Brian Pohanka, and Brian's memorial service, respectively, on the special memorial page. Thanks must also go to Mr. Jeffrey Rodriguez, for allowing me to use his photo of Brian on the home page.

Thanks also to Mr. Clark B. Hall, and my great friend Patrick Schroeder, for sharing their special memories of Brian's funeral and memorial services -- also thanks to Leonie Bollinger, Thomas Fleming, Nick Statler, Michelle Ventura, Gil Powell II, Mindy Eckler and Trudy Ring, for sharing their personal thoughts about Brian, on the memorial page.

I want to thank Barb Beranek, Tim Goodling, Shawn Connery, Mindy Eckler, Bobby Grenier, Pam Sparks, Cheryl Pula, Margaret Marley Stowell, Pamela Lenox, Betsy Roche, "Tigerlily", David James, David Lepkowski, David Williamson, David Valencia and Susan O'Shields, for contributing pictures of Chamberlain-related sites in Maine, Gettysburg, and Virginia.

Thanks must go to Mr. Joe Avalon, publisher of "Civil War Interactive", for giving this site CWI's "Five-Star Award". That's really a stunner to me!

Particular thanks must be given to the staff of the Pearce Collections Museum at Navarro College in Corsicana, TX -- and most especially to Ms. Rosalie Meier -- for allowing me to use three previously-unknown (to me, anyway) letters of Chamberlain's on the site.

Special thanks must go to Mr. Don Krafft, for sharing his wonderful memories of living in Chamberlain's Brunswick home, when it was still a multi-unit apartment house.

Thanks are also due Mr. Dan Moellentin -- the new owner of Chamberlain's birthplace house in Brewer, ME--for allowing me to put his photos of the interior and exterior of the house, as well as some written descriptions.

I also want to thank Mike Nugent and Glenn S., formerly of the "Military History Online" Discussion Board, for their literary and photo contributions.

I particularly want to thank Maine artist Ken Hendricksen, for his very gracious permission to use his magnificent portraits of Chamberlain, on various pages on the site.

Thanks also to artist Paul Martin, for asking my input on his latest Chamberlain portrait on the Links page--and for his permission to use it as well. I must also thank Mr. Andy Amato, for allowing me to use his beautiful new portrait of Chamberlain, as well as for asking my input on his work.

Thanks also go to Chris Aguilar, Trudy Ring, and Charlotte Schaefer, for their contributions to the Book Review page. I also must thank Mr. Thomas Eishen, for generously sending a copy of his first book, "Courage On Little Round Top", for review.

Special thanks go to retired Bowdoin College Professor Denis Corish,, for allowing me to put his original "Ballad of Joshua Chamberlain" on the site. And also for being my Bowdoin College campus guide, during my Maine trip in May 2004. He showed me places not usually seen by most visitors to Bowdoin, including Chamberlain's former college president's office, in Massachusetts Hall.

More special thanks go to my great friend Bobby Grenier, for sending an account of his experiences at "Chamberlain Days" in August 2003 -- both in text and in pictures...

Thanks also to Mr. Ron Pelt, for allowing me to use his original poems "We Are the Flank" and "Chamberlain" on the site.

Thanks must also go to Mr. Joe Fabel, for sharing his Chamberlain essay and original poem.

I also want to thank all those who sent me their comments for the "Why People Admire Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain" page. They are very moving--and I hope other visitors will feel the same way, and feel they can send their thoughts along as well.

I want to thank all my friends -- both online and off -- for their patience and encouragement, in bringing this site "to birth". Hope the wait's been worth it!

And finally: special thanks must go to you, the visitors, who have come back again and again, and who have been so kind and gracious in your emails to me. I hope you have learned something from this site, and will continue to visit as I add more information, and more pages.
